2. DESIGNATED PERSON TRAINING FOR SCHOOLS – London 9th & 10th May 2012
This comprehensive two-day programme is intended as an introduction to senior school staff who hold the designated role and those who might deputise for them or are part of a ‘designated team’.
The course is also a useful refresher for those who have not updated their training within the last 2 years.
The course addresses the full range of the designated responsibilities, draws upon a multi-agency perspective and complies fully with legal requirements; including those directed by the Local Safeguarding Children Board to work with statutory agencies and other partners.
Why it matters
Your Governors and school staff have the statutory duty to safeguard all pupils and to promote their welfare and wellbeing.
The DfE expectation is that staff who fulfil the designated role will be trained on induction and that their training will be updated at least once every two years.

The trainers who will deliver this course are Catherine Rushforth and John Guest.
Catherine has worked within the education sector for many years, is a qualified social worker and continues to work in practice with families, alongside training and professional development. Anne-Louise is an accredited CWDC trainer, who has extensive experience as a human resources practitioner and trainer in the public and private sectors in areas such as recruitment, appraisal, communication skills and organisational development.
The workshop will build upon DfE Guidance and aims to:
- give participants an awareness and understanding of offender behaviour
- identify the key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
- consider policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
- help participants begin to review their own and their organisation’s policies and practices with a view to making them ‘safer’
Upon completion of the workshop, delegates will undertake the test that will lead to the award ofthe CWDC Safer Recruitment certificate. For this reason, it is essential that delegates commit to attending the complete day.
